Every 9 seconds in the United States
a woman in abused by a partner.

It is violence that knows no barriers, occuring in every type of relationship regardless of age, income, race, religion, education and geographice location.

It is violence that affects entire families, often for generations.

It is violence that victimizes not only women, but their children.

All that is tragic enough. But the greater tragedy is when victims in domestic violence have no where to escape.

ABUSE IT NOT ALWAYS PHYSICAL
Violence shows itself in many forms... if you are experiencing one or more of the following, you are a victim of domestic violence:

• Your partner isolates you from family / friends.
• Your partner refuses to allow you to get a job or puts all assets in the batterer's name only.
• Your partner destroys property, or treats you like a servant.
• Your partner makes threats to hurt, kill you, your children or loved ones... including pets.
• Your partner forces ANY sexual act upon you.
• Your partner calls you names, verbally harasses you, plays mind games or destroys your self esteem.
• Your partner hits, pushes, shoves, slaps or threatens you with any type of weapon.

If you are a victim of deliberate and repeated abuse:

• IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT. No one deserves to be physically, sexually or emotionally abused.
• Without help, abuse only gets worse. You must break the cycle of abuse. For you, for your children.
• You have nothing to be ashamed of.

Here's What You Can Do:

• Make an emergency saftey plan.
• Call the police and be prepared to file criminal charges.
• File for an Order Of Protection.
• Seek medical attention.
• Go to a friend's or relative's house.
• Get legal advice.
• Seek professional counseling and guidance for you and your children.
